It is Saturday night at 9:30pm and we just got home a few hours ago after 2 VERY long days of travel. I will post all of the details of our odyssey later, but here's a quick recap- our flight from Guangzhou to Beijing was canceled Friday morning, after everyone had boarded and the doors were shut. After waiting for almost three hours to reticket and retrieve and re-check luggage, and an OJ Simpson-style run thru the airport... we made it to Beijing at 4pm, about 15 minutes after our flight to the US had left. It then took another 5 hours to reticket all of us home for the next day, and then Air China sent us to a very nasty hotel to spend the night (okay- I am too tired tonight to put a happy spin on this one!)
The next morning after discovering that there was no edible breakfast at this hotel, Steve insisted that the hotel get us (and the other three families who were in this situation with us) a bus back to the Beijing airport. There we waited 6 hours (albeit by our choice, it was better than waiting at the hotel) for our flight to the US.
If it wasn't for our guide Jack Mao, we would NEVER have gotten through this mess so smoothly.... Steve must have called him 25 times in the last two days to have Jack translate for us over the phone to various airline and hotel employees so that we could get what we needed. We will be forever grateful to him... and to the fabulous flight attendents who helped us out on this long flight (we originally didn't even have seats together!), and to the amazing new technology on the Continental flight that gave us "on-demand" access to over 400 movies and TV shows (our kids were becoming less than entertained by our collection of DVDs after the last 2 days!)
We are tired... but we are HOME!!!
Oh- and Charlotte is thrilled to be here and in love with her Gramma and Grampa. And her new room, and her toys, and even her carseat. I'll post pictures and more details later.....
