Today we decided we would do a little sightseeing in Guangzhou, right after we dropped off all of our paperwork to the Homeland coordinator here who was with the other eight families in the medical examiner's office. First we headed over to the Six Banyans Temple and Flower Pagoda where Jack arranged for a blessing ceremony for our family. While we can't understand what is being said, we can sure understand the reverence displayed and the message conveyed. Of course I think our kids liked tossing coins at the "wishing pagoda" best, trying to get a coin into the top opening for good luck.
After our visit to the temple, we stopped by "Old McDonalds" to pick up an American-style picnic lunch which we took to the Green Islands park. There we spent some time at the kiddie rides area... and we pretty much had the place to ourselves. We had to find someone to sell us tickets before every ride, and then kind of hunt around for the ride operator to turn it on! It was like having a pre-school sized Disney World at our command! The kids all loved it, except maybe Kyle who felt that the rides were "lame" (his words of course, not mine!). Luckily, he was able to fall into a hackeysack game with some local ladies who were playing in the park.
It was so fun watching Charlotte's pure joy as she rode a merry-go-round for the first time, and was thrilled by the little helicopter ride and the car ride. She would wave and blow kisses and she passed by us- just giddy with happiness.
Every day here is so much fun, and I am getting a bit concerned that we are setting the bar a little too high as to what life in our family will be like when we get home!
